The Tyndall effect is used in the light dispersion smoke detector; a sensing element and a light source are segregated by a gloomy compartment so that the source of light would not fall on the photodiode.

The light from the source is dispersed or falls on the photocell when smoke enters the chamber. The photodetector output triggers an alert.
